Sanford Allen Kaplan, MD
I knew him only from a few meetings, while socializing over
dinner, with his wife by his side, but he came across as a compassionate
family physician and an advocate for his patients and to the
advancement of family practice. He had strong opinions and
good arguments to back him up. We shall miss him dearly.

Denis
Joseph Donovan, MD
The Bronx Westchester Chapter of the New York State Academy of
Family Physicians wishes to express its deep sadness at the
death of Denis Donovan. Denis practiced for over twenty years
in Rye and was instrumental in increasing the exposure of the
lower Westchester community to Family Practice. He alone was
instrumental in the improvement of the small department at New
York United Hospital such that it more than tripled in size
during his tenure. His greatest strength, however, was his
ability to provide comfort, solace and superb medical care to
his patients. Whether present in the Delivery Room or Medical
Floors, his natural unassuming warm style endeared patients
and colleagues. His presence will be sorely missed. We wish
Lynn, Denis Jr and Michael along with his extended family our
profound condolences.

I
still remember the first time I met Rhea. It was my first
day at St. Joseph's, precepting for the first time after
finishing my residency at Kingston. In between her busy
schedule, she would come and chat with me, kindly helping
me out without seeming to do so. Since that day, whenever
I saw her, no matter how busy she was, she always found
time for me. Although she took her work very seriously, she was
always smiling and radiating cheerfulness. She had such a
captivating personality. Her patients cherished her. Her
dedication to her patients inspired many a resident and
student. We
all miss Rhea Maria Barton terribly. We loved her. Rest in Peace.
