Minutes of the Spring BWAFP Board Meeting at the Le Refuge, a cozy French cuisine restaurant in City Island, NY.

The meeting started a 6 PM sharp. The number present was at it's greatest since the BWAFP inception. The following members were present and signed attendance:

All present including the candidates-elected for the board introduced themselves. Dr. Hamaoui declared the meeting open and the Agenda was read by Dr. Germain, as follows: 1: Award Ceremony. 2: Installment Ceremony of the 1999-00 Board and Officers. 3: Report by the Delegates to the 51st State Congress. 4: A special communication on Cox-2 Inhibitors by Dr. Benito Mascarenhas. A special word of thanks was given to Searle and Pfizer Pharmaceuticals who kindly sponsored the lecture with an unrestricted educational fund. Moving to the first item of the agenda, Dr. Philip Heinegg was honored by the chapter, receiving and accepting "The President Award" (for excellence in Family Practice). Dr. Hamaoui gave a short biography of the award recipient, citing his many accomplishments for the Academy, for his patients and his dedication and commitment to the teaching of medical students.


Following Dr. Allan Bruckheim ministered the "Oath of Office" to the elected officers of the 1999-00 Board: Abraham Hamaoui MD, President; James Neuendorf MD, Vice-President; Gerard Germain MD, Secretary; Richard Strongwater MD, Alternate Secretary; Howard Yudin MD, Treasurer; Joseph Halbach MD, Philip Heinegg MD, and Edward Merker MD, Advisors to the Board; Darwin Deen MD and Ellen Miller MD, Co-Chairs, Academic Affairs; Norma Lopez MD, Chair, Women, Minorities, and New Physicians; Margaret Rosenberg MD, Chair, Family Practice Advocacy; Amy Nguyen, MD Resident Delegate; Hirendrakumar Dave, MD, Alternate Resident Delegate, St. Joseph FPRP; Michael Obiefune, MD, Alternate Resident Delegate, Bronx-Lebanon FPRP; David Aamodt and Eileen Fong, Student Delegates, NYMC. Following Dr. Neuendorf announced that the BW Family Picnic was scheduled for Sunday August 29 at Tibbets Brook Park in Yonkers and stated that all including Family Practice Residents, Medical Students and their families are very welcome. He then introduced Dr. Benito Mascarenhas, rheumatologist at Burke Rehabilitation Center, Westchester, who gave an informative lecture on cox-2 inhibitors. Even though dinner was waiting he had to answer many questions after the lecture given the interest it had raised. Finally dinner was ushered in and Dr. Hamaoui called end to the meeting. The food was as usual was exquisite and after coffee people still lingered on chatting and enjoying the evening.
