ABSTRACT and RESEARCH PRESENTATIONS
Instructions to authors for the New York Academic Family Medicine Web Journal
and for the Research Forum
The abstract should contain about 250 to maximum 350 words
with the following subheadings:
OBJECTIVE: A slight introduction followed by the objective.
METHODS:
RESULTS:
CONCLUSIONS:
    
The presentation of a project should take about 10 minutes with up to 10 slides (8 best). About 5 minutes are usually set aside for discussions.
Both should contain the following contents
OBJECTIVE: The question(s) should be clearly stated.
RESEARCH DESIGN:  Describe the basic design, whether observational or experimental and whether case-control, cross-sectional, cohort, or a randomized control trial. 
SETTING: State whether the setting is a general community, a primary care center, private practice or an institution.
MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: State the variables of the study and the main outcome observed.
PARTICIPANTS (or PATIENTS): Give the main characteristics, such as numbers in the groups, main demographic and follow-up data.
SELECTION PROCEDURE: Clarify the characteristics of the selection of participants. Whether the selection was at random or consecutive and whether volunteer or of convenience.
INTERVENTIONS: Describe if any, and the essential features of methods and duration of administration.
RESULTS: In the abstract only the MAIN results of study should be stated. Be precise and concise. 
CONCLUSIONS: The main conclusions supported by the data should be stated.
